Fatal Four-Vehicle Crash On Route 1 Under Investigation In Maryland (Developing)

A Route 1 crash involving four vehicles killed one driver and hospitalized two others on Tuesday night, Feb. 6, police said.

The crash occurred just north of Country Meadows Lane in Laurel shortly before 9:45 p.m., according to the Howard County Police Department.

A 1995 Chevy 1500 was heading northbound when it crossed the median and struck a southbound 2007 Pontiac Solstice. The Pontiac then hit a 2022 Hyundai Accent, while debris from the crash hit a 2022 Toyota Camry.

The man driving the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Two other drivers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Route 1 was shut down in both directions between Whiskey Bottom Road and Maier Road for about four hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
